The Power Of Your Thoughts
Do you underestimate the power of your thoughts?
Our negative thoughts create feelings which generate emotions. Negative emotions like sadness, depression, anxiety, stress and loneliness can be really overwhelming. They make us believe that they are permanent, that things will never change or get better. But what we don’t realise is that we think and how we feel creates a state of BEING. We massively underestimate the power of our thoughts - we can make them more real than anything, and we do it all the time!
Our minds are a garden, we need to nourish them, we need to talk to them with love (it’s a fact that plants grow faster when you speak kind words to them!). If we don’t pay attention to our thoughts, they get out of control + weeds will start to grow, leaving the gardens of our minds messy and easy to get lost in. Be aware of what you are feeding yourself, not just through your mouth but through your eyes and ears too! When you feel down because of external circumstances, you still have a choice on whether you consume more negative things or uplift yourself with positive music, people, food, videos or other things that are good for your mind. This sounds simple, but so many of us choose to sit in negative emotions because the act of dwelling is comforting (even when we don’t feel good).
Give yourself time to grow. No matter how you feel right now, it’s never permanent and you can take steps to feel better. Next time you feel a negative thought or feeling rising, remember that you can CHOOSE your thoughts. You can choose a different thought and create a different feeling. You CAN change your brain just by thinking differently. As soon as you think about a new possibility, your brain begins to fire in new sequences and you start to subconsciously plan your behaviour. This is so powerful because it means we’re not waiting for something outside of ourselves to change how we feel about ourselves. We are in control.
This is an affirmation from our Perspective journal. Repeat daily to plant positive thoughts in your mind!
I AM A WORK IN PROGRESS.
I KNOW IT’S OK TO MAKE MISTAKES.
I AM DOING THE BEST I CAN, IN THIS MOMENT.
I AM BUILDING STRENGTH + RESILIENCE.
I AM NOT MY THOUGHTS.
We ALL experience negative thoughts at some point, but for some of us the thoughts can be constant. They can be debilitating. We can struggle to recognise what’s real. The stories we’ve began to create in our minds about ourselves, our lives and how others see us, take over.
If you have a friend who is struggling with low self esteem, this is a lil reminder for you to reach out to them. List a few of their good qualities. This act can pick someone up from a dark space and actually help them to rebuild self belief, as they are able to reframe a negative thought to a more positive perspective. Send your closest friend this post and share something you love about them along with it.
Don’t be afraid to use this for yourself, too! If you want to work on your negative thought patterns, ask a friend to share with you something they admire the most about you. Write this down and stick it on your mirror to remind yourself that the stories your mind tells aren’t always true!
